The Khalilah yacht by Palmer Johnson represents one of the international panorama's high-end floating residences, a 48-metre vessel of which only one example exists worldwide. This exclusive vessel selected LU Murano glass art to illuminate the dining room with a bespoke creation uniting Venetian artisanal tradition and luxury nautical sector specificity.
The Khalilah's owner sought a distinctive lighting solution for the dining room, capable of enhancing an environment characterised by low ceilings typical of naval architecture. The design challenge required an artwork guaranteeing scenographic impact without compromising spatial functionality, distinguishing the vessel within the competitive international luxury yachting landscape.
The installation also needed to meet the marine environment's technical requirements, where vibrations, saline humidity, and vessel movements impose superior safety and resistance standards.
Master glassmaker Fabio Fornasier developed LUctopus, a ceiling artwork entirely crafted in Murano blown glass in the organic forms of an octopus. This creation represents the evolution of Murano glass-making art applied to the nautical sector, with specific technical solutions for marine environments.
The octopus form adapts perfectly to the dining room's curvilinear spaces, maximising illumination with ceilings below 2.5 metres. Each glass tentacle is hand-blown in Murano's furnaces, with craftsmanship guaranteeing resistance to nautical stresses and integration of certified mounting systems for maritime use.
The LUctopus installation transforms the Khalilah yacht's dining room into a representative environment celebrating the encounter between Venetian glass-making tradition and contemporary nautical innovation.
Master Fornasier's project demonstrates LU Murano's capability to compete in the international luxury yachting market, bringing Italian artisanal excellence to one of luxury design's most demanding sectors.
The luminous sculpture becomes the vessel's distinctive element, conferring recognisable identity and prestige within the elite floating residences panorama.
For superyachts and luxury vessels requiring artistic lighting resistant to marine environments, LU Murano delivers certified bespoke solutions for the nautical sector.
